E3 2018: What we’re watching and where to watch them
E3 2018 is happening this weekend and if it’s one thing you should expect, it’s games, games and more games! Hosted at the Los Angeles Convention Center, E3 is and still the leading gaming event for publishers and developers to showcase their new and upcoming titles.
Here in Flaktest Gaming, it’ll be a blatant lie if we’re not excited, even by a little fraction so here’s what we’re looking forward to this year’s E3.
EA – Sunday June 10th, 2am AWST – 4am AEST
EA will be kicking off with an opening presentation once again via EA Play, EA’s own event in Los Angeles (EA stopped officially participating E3 a few years ago). We will see some more gameplay footage and an in-depth look on ‘Battlefield 5’, Bioware’s ‘Anthem’, and hopefully more indie titles from their EA Originals program.
Pete – For me, the #1 thing on my list is Bioware’s Anthem. I also have a bet going with my mates as to which games will feature a battle royale mode. *fingers crossed for Battlefield 5*
Oh…and expect to see your usual yearly updates on their range of EA Sports titles.
Harry – Do anyone even play those games anymore?
Microsoft – Monday June 11th, 4am AWST – 6am AEST
We’re not 100% sure what Microsoft will be showing off at this year’s E3. They certainly have a lot of pressure to compete with Sony’s amazing lineup of exclusives, including the ones that were recently released. This is worth watching anyway as we expect Microsoft will show off some 3rd party games to fill in the gaps, but we may even see a new ‘Gears of War’ or another ‘Forza Horizon’.
Jake – I am really looking forward to the possible reveal of the next Borderlands game.
Bethesda – Monday June 11th, 8:30am AWST – 11:30am AEST
To make up their disappointing ‘Bethesdaland’ showcase from last year’s E3, Bethesda will have some promising wasteland-centric games to showoff – ‘Fallout 76’ from Bethesda Game Studios and ‘Rage 2’ from Avalanche Studios. We might get a surprise of a ‘Doom’ Sequel as there were some rumours circulating of it a couple of months prior.
Harry – Man I’m soooo ready for Fallout 76, I even started playing Fallout 4 just to get into the groove again!
Pete – Also itching to see the Bethesda showcase, learning more about Fallout 76.
Square Enix – Tuesday June 12th, 1am ASWT – 3am AEST
This will be a very interesting conference to watch since this will be Square Enix first E3 conference. They’ve already announced some highly anticipating games including ‘Shadow of the Tomb Raider’, ‘Final Fantasy 7 Remake’ and let’s not forget ‘Kingdom Hearts 3’.
Harry – I waited far too long for Kingdom Hearts 3, it’s already looking amazing!
Ubisoft – Tuesday June 12th, 4am AWST – 6am AEST
We might see some more gameplay footage of ‘Skull and Bones’, a ship action game that was taken off ‘Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag’ and spun into a separate game. Also, we may see an in-depth look on ‘Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’ and check what they’ve done to ‘Beyond Good and Evil 2’ since its unveiling last year.
Sony – Tuesday June 12th, 9am AWST – 11am AEST
Sony already has a huge line-up of announced exclusives including ‘Death Stranding’ by Kojima Productions, ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ by Insomniac and ‘The Last of Us Part II’ by Naughty Dog. It’ll be a big surprise if they announce another exclusive to their platform but keep in mind of some 3rd party games that will be a part of their conference.
Nintendo – Wednesday June 13th, 12am AWST – 2am AEST
Like last year, Nintendo will be showcasing their showcase via their Nintendo Direct presentations. We’ll likely see some more gameplay footage of the two ‘Pokemon: Let’s Go’ titles and see some previously released games coming out to the switch.
Some gameplay footage of ‘Metroid Prime 4’? Probably unlikely, especially since we were only given a game logo last year.
Oh…we nearly forgot of the new ‘Super Smash Bros.’ for the Switch, being a highly anticipating game, we’ll expect to see some new features and characters.
Harry – With a great RPG and a fun Racing game under Nintendo’s belt, let’s hope that Metroid Prime 4 will be a wicked Nintendo FPS game.
So where can we watch them?
At the time of the posting, only EA and Ubisoft has a placeholder for their upcoming streams on their YouTube pages, which you can check out down below:
The rest has yet to schedule a livestream but we do have some links on where to start. We do expect all of them to host their showcases on their YouTube pages and we have those links down here:
During E3, we’ll also keep you updated on each conference. E3 is without a doubt, going to be a huge week and we’ve prepared ourselves with lots of coffee and energy drinks to consume.
For those who are still attending school, we don’t recommend staying up late and watch these streams live. School results are a little important and with the Regional League in its last few rounds, we’d prefer to have you in your top shape.
But for the meantime, stay tuned for more E3 news!
